For children 0-24 months and their caregivers. Caregivers will learn about songs, stories and rhymes to enhance personal reading time. These skills will help children build vocabulary, recognize objects, and build a foundation for reading and learning.

By special request we are offering a monthly storytime for those preschool children ages 3-5, who attend preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays and cannot make our normal storytime schedule at Miller Park. Children and caregivers will learn pre-reading skills through stories, songs and rhymes to help prepare them for their Kindergarten Readiness Assessment in Literature Test (KRAL). Kindergarteners will continue to strengthen their skills. Skills include answering questions, repeating sentences, rhyming words and identifying sounds and letters.

Children ages 3-6 are invited to join us at the Lane Road Library for Stories and Crafts. Each week participants will listen to books and then make a fun project. Children and caregivers will learn prereading skills through stories, songs, rhymes, and art activities. No enrollment is required.

For students in grades 3-5 and a caregiver. Library instructors facilitate a discussion of the selected title to teach critical thinking and appreciation for literature. This month we will read The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks. Ten copies of the book will be available beginning January 10th to the first ten families to enroll. Additional families able to secure their own copy of the book are welcome to attend.

Beyblades! (T) (register/details)

Where: Tremont Road - Main Library at Activity Room

Grades 1-3. Join us on early dismissal day for an hour of rip-roaring fun. Participants need to bring their own blades (and stadiums, if they want). Please label a plastic bag with your name to keep your extra blades and rip cords separate from other classmates. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior to event. Class size is limited to 20 students.

Kids in grades K-5 are invited to join Marty Marlatt and her trained therapy dogs for a fun way to practice their reading skills. Participants will take turns sharing stories with registered therapy dogs (TDI). We’ll provide the books or you can bring your favorites.
